Obesity is not something you haven’t heard of. It’s slowly but surely becoming an epidemic. Obesity is for sure not a black death thing but it’s a big health issue. Obesity can lead to many health problems such as  high blood pressure, heart disease, liver disease, stroke, arthritis, kidney disease, gallbladder disease, mental health, Alzheimer’s disease, and most prominent, Diabetes.

Many people refer to words such as a epidemic or a worldwide crisis but in all honesty what other way is there to explain the problem with obesity? According to the latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an astonishing 68 percent of American adults are overweight (meaning they have a body mass index, or BMI, of 25 or more) or obese. America alone is the fattest and most obese country with around 109,342,839 people that are obese. That alone makes up for 33.7 percent of the American population.

But why? The solution to solving obesity is by preventing it. Although decreasing your weight is beneficial it’d be better off if we just completely eliminated the issue. The main cause of Obesity at the moment is that we eat to much and move to little. Contributions to this problem is your comfy sofa. Have you ever heard someone say don’t eat and watch television at the same time? Well they aren’t lying. People who eat distracted eat 10 percent more calories at a time, also eating distracted often makes it harder to recall what you’ve ate. in other words eating distracted will most likely make you over eat later in the day.

Moving too little such as not exercising enough or not engaging in enough physical activity doesn’t help you at all but hurts you even more. Although stating the obvious, we don’t get out enough and do some physical activities and once you’ve hit the obesity level you’ve probably lost all hope on your diet and what you can do to better yourself. This is another reason why preventing the problem is better than decreasing it in a way.

Obesity is a big problem because it causes health problems which then give you even more problems, you get me? Anyways the main reason why obesity is such a big problem is that it isn’t just a weight problem: it can have serious effects on a person’s physical, metabolic and psychological health.

My final reason on why obesity is the financial issues that come bundled with obesity. A website (www.endocrineweb.com) have predicted that If the incidence of obesity continues to climb, combined health care costs associated with treating obesity-related diseases could rise by $48 billion to $66 billion per year by 2030; the loss in productivity could total between $390 billion and $580 billion per year. this is a lot of money being wasted alone on obesity, think of it like this, The United States military GDP is $603 billion and in 2014 Cancer research it self has only reached the 100 billion mark. Right now Obesity isn’t that high in numbers as it stands at $63 billion per year, never mind that’s a lot of money but you get my point on why obesity is such a big issue.
